Why?

We've all been there. We have a test coming up. We really should be studying, but for some reason, we don't. We waste time somehow. Be it YouTube, playing COD, Facebook, MSN, whatever, we waste it. I've done it, you've done it, we've all done it. But why?

Is there a point behind all this? Is it because we don't really find anything in it? Or is it just because we're lazy? Or is it a combination?

The point that I'm trying to get at is, we're living. Right now, you're breathing. You're reading this page. You exist. Think about that for a second. You, you exist. But we all know that we're not going to exist for ever. So, why do we kill ourselves, so to speak, by wasting time?

Even worse, when we succeed, we fail. We end up becoming what we wanted to, we get where we wanted to, get the money we wanted, get everything we want, we want MORE. Why?

There are so many people that are born into a dynasty. You have things that are available to you at birth. The instant you're born, you have some things guaranteed for you. You got your toys, you got your gifts at Christmas, you got all your birthday gifts, you got vacations. You have privileges. And we all know that we take them for granted. All the time. The fact that right now, you can breath, is a privilege. Let alone having houses, computers, tvs, books, schooling, everything you have. Now, you might argue that a "privilege" is something that you have that the average person doesn't. Now, my statement above may fall apart in Canada, but in the world, it doesn't. Honestly, how many people in the world have clean, drinkable water? How many are disease free? Things even less obvious than that, less obvious than food and water. How many have families? I know, sometimes you get mad at you family because they do or say something, but they only love you. So many people don't even have a family. So many people have nothing.

And I'm not just talking about kids in Africa or Mexico. I'm talking about kids that are within a 30 km radius from where you live. Man, all of this is happening here. In some case, it's even worse. Because you got all of the successful people moving to Canada or deveoped countries because it's a better place to live than any other place we know, right? So then, you'd imagine that the few who actually don't have it as good as Average Joe would be better off than those in developing countries. But no. Here, when someone's wealthy, they keep wanting more. And I don't mean "wealthy" as in you have millions of dollars, I mean it as in that you have certain luxuries, such as the computer that you're reading this from right now. And if you do have a million dollars burning a hole in your pocket, you want to have both pockets in your pants burnt. You want even more money. Yet, the poor guys that practically live right next to you see this and they feel worthless. They feel like they're below the average Joe. They lose all hope. That's why it's worse than if everyone was like that, because if everyone was like that, then you wouldn't feel so bad. At least you'd feel average. I mean, if you've got ten trillion dollars and two kids, give your two kids two rooms, not 52, when you see 52 kids outside with no rooms.

More than ever, we've become all about ourselves. We steal from each other. We fight one another. It's all about us. We're ready to take anything from anyone, yet never let anything go. Like a little child who yells "Gimme, gimme, gimme!" and then hogs every single thing that was snatched, we've become greedy. And the sad part is, we know this. We know how bad this is, yet we still continue to go on with our lives and not make any changes in it. That's not necessarily an individual fault. It's a society fault. But one individual has to start making changes. Has to push the first block to create the domino effect. Has to create that spark to ignite that fire. Why don't we forget about our little problems and focus on our sisters' depression? Our brothers' illness? If you do, you'll soon see how much better you feel and how fast your own problems seem to disappear. How much at peace you'll be with the world. Which proves a previous blog entry, we're here to help each other. Why else would we feel amazing about it?

Now, you might argue that if we did do this, we'd become communists and give our hard-earned money to lazy bums. But it's not about that, it's not about communism. It's about humanitarianism. If we did truly do that, we wouldn't have lazy bums. Because, isn't the real source of laziness a lack of inspiration? We all have a burning desire to do work. Some work. That's why when you don't study when you should, you go on Facebook, or YouTube. You don't just sit there, motionless. You have got to do something. Which is why our generation is stuck in a ditch. With all the massive amounts of media and entertainment around us, more than ever, there's something to do. That something may not be necessarily the right thing, but we still do it anyway. Because even though we have a burning desire to do work, we haven't trained ourselves to become focused, and the media that surrounds us makes it even harder to focus. We have to tune out. When we do, the media will respond back and give us what we really need. A push out of the ditch. In a sense, we're using our own weakness to overcome it. We'd be planning an ingenious way to win this battle. The harshest, ugliest, longest, most difficult battle in the history of our existence. That with ourselves. And the key to winning over ourselves is ourselves.

I wish I was born into a poor family. If I was, I wouldn’t take all of what I had for granted so much. I’d be fighting to get somewhere in life. I’d have so much more room to grow. Those of you that have band with me are experiencing this. Our band has serious potential, believe it or not, but because we know that and because we’ve been told that, we don’t work hard. We don’t grow. We’re stuck in the same ditch. There needs to be a complete change of mindset. It has to get to the point that the poor feel lucky and the rich don’t. Because then, the poor understand that they can grow a lot in their lifetime, and the rich actually have to try, and try very hard.

Another reason to try: miracles. You've got miracles happening all around you. Not just like health, your body and your system, but the world around you. The fact that there aren't animals attacking you every two minutes. The fact that an asteroid isn't hitting the Earth. The fact that infections don't go out of control. Even something as small as the fact that you roof isn't falling on your head. Have you ever noticed that, at the end of the day, everything kinda just... works? To me, that's proof enough of a God, since "If you do something right, no one will know if you've done anything at all." Be it the work of God or not, they are still every day miracles happening, well everyday. So why can't you, the one reading this right now, just give back one miracle to the millions upon millions that you've already been given?

When there's hopelessness, people evolve. That's why every single time there's a major war, the human race makes a giant step forward. It's at those times that we realize that we need to give it our all to live. You realize there's no help, from anyone. That's when you got to stand on your own two feet. That's when you really become independent. But independence doesn't necessarily have to mean loneliness. It's just that you don't depend on someone else to bring you food every night. And for us to survive, Canadians, Americans, Koreans, Mexicans, Africans, Asians, Porto-Ricuans, Iranians, everyone, we got to understand each other. Because when we do, we can actually do something. We're not all the time in that "Gimme" stage anymore. So, even though we're independent, we're still working together. We can do something, we have a passion, we have that flame, we know what to do. That effect will be multiplied upon itself once we start to really help one another.

  1. I find this more and more true all the time my friend.

I think though that no matter how happy we are and no matter how much we have, a point will come where we want more. I guess that's just a human nature. Of course, there is a point where things have gone too far. That point would be the present day where a few of us want so much more than the Earth can supply us. In return we end up taking from our fellow humans leaving them in poverty.

I feel like if one lived even in poverty he would always want a little bit more. Once he got that little bit more, his wanting wouldn't end, he would still want more. I guess that's kind of what has happened

On the other hand, technology and for the larger part, the media are ruining western culture, I think =S

Great post, as usual good sir! (:

  2. Disappearance of greediness within the human nature would indicate the possible existence of the perfect communist government.

The theory of ideal totalitarianism would then be applied to our lives and everyone would live happily ever after. :]

Normal people find problems, great people find issues.

    Continue being yourself.
    You're so inspirational.
